According to a report in the Palm Beach Post, Ripken told the audience at a local baseball banquet that he really wanted to know why Rodriguez used performance-enhancing drugs and he was going to "make it [his] business to find out."
The two have known each other for 16 years, but have not spoken since Rodriguez's admission of steroid use during spring training, according to the report.
Ripken spoke at the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County's Men's Night Out banquet Thursday and avoided the topic during his speech, but addressed it afterward.
"The steroid era really puts a dark cloud over baseball," Ripken said in the report. "And that dark cloud is hanging and hanging."
