Rodriguez will manage Marlins through 2010 season

Florida Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria told the team before its game against the Mets last night that Edwin Rodriguez will remain as manager through the remainder of the 2010 season. The club made the announcement in the second inning.

Rodriguez is the first native of Puerto Rico to manage in the major leagues. He was named interim manager last Wednesday when Fredi Gonzalez was fired.

The Marlins had interest in ESPN analyst Bobby Valentine before deciding to stay with Rodriguez. Valentine said as recently as Monday that he thought he was still a candidate. "I wish them all the success in the world," Valentine wrote in an e-mail. - AP
