The Mets placed Shaun Marcum on waivers for his unconditional release, the team announced Tuesday.
The release comes after the Mets found out Marcum would be unable to pitch again this season after being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome July 9.
The Mayo Clinic describes TOS as such: "Thoracic outlet syndrome is a group of disorders that occur when the blood vessels or nerves in the thoracic outlet — the space between your collarbone and your first rib — become compressed."
In his first and last year with the Mets, Marcum went just 1-10 with a 5.29 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 12 starts. Marcum also made a pair of relief appearances.
