My free-agent rankings and predictions are in the actual newspaper today, and at some point, hopefully sooner than later, they'll be on line. When they are, I'll put them up here. For now...
--With Derek Jeter a free agent for the first time in his career today, I wrote a column on the Yankees' captain, noting that for once, he has terrible professional timing.
--The peripatetic Sandy Alderson is back out West this weekend, and in addition to meeting with managerial candidates Wally Backman, Terry Collins and Chip Hale, he's stopping to see his former lieutenant Paul DePodesta in San Diego. If DePodesta leaves the Padres for the Mets, it will reflect how much respect DePodesta has for Alderson, for DePodesta has set himself up with a really good gig in San Diego and his wife's family is there.
--Self-promotion alert: I'll be on "Sports Extra" tonight at 10:30 on New York's Fox 5 with Duke Castiglione.
UPDATE, 10:09 a.m.: My free-agent rankings and predictions are now up. Like last year, I went the fully scientific route, eliminating my opinion and going with the players' 2010 and 2009 Wins Above Replacement (WAR) from both FanGraphs.com and Baseball-Reference.com
Have a great day.
