it's not too often that a pitcher hits a home run in a cavernous ballpark such as Marlins Park. So when Marlins pitching phenom Jose Fernandez launched his first career home run Wednesday night against the Atlanta Braves, he made sure to savor the moment.
The Braves certainly didn't appreciate it, however.
The 20-year-old Fernandez appeared to admire his home run for quite a while, rounded the bases slower than most ballplayers and -- in a move that appeared to tick several Braves off -- spit on third base as he rounded it.
That caused Braves catcher Brian McCann to confront Fernandez at the plate, and the benches quickly cleared.
