World Series Game 5 in review

Gonna make this brief, because we have a very busy travel day ahead:

--At Game 5, I wrote about Tony La Russa and his absolutely abysmal night. So many wrong calls and, if we're to believe La Russa from his post-game news conference, some slapstick hijinks, as well.

I've heard of problems with the bullpen phone before, but nothing like this. No previous instances in which the message was so botched and the stakes so high.

Cuh-ray-zee. But even outside of that wackiness and whatever occurred when Allen Craig was thrown out stealing in the seventh, La Russa still made a slew of terrible decisions. Then again, had Mark Rzepczynski turned that double play off David Murphy in the eighth, then maybe St. Louis would've won.

Oh, and in a related story, Mike Napoli came up huge again - hitting eighth, again.

It's been a fun Series; I look forward to Game 6 Wednesday night. Or maybe Thursday night. Wednesday's forecast is awful.

--My World Series insider is about A.J. Preller, a Long Island native who has played a critical role in the Rangers' success.

--Brian Cashman's inexorable march towards a contract extension continued yesterday, as Cashman met face to face with Hal Steinbrenner.

--I might check in today. Then again, I might not. It depends on how things go.
