This is an exclusive club with only two members in the world: Alex Rodriguez has joined Willie Mays for the longest at-bats (21) without a home run--after hitting 599 homers. A-Rod can take over the dubious record tonight in Cleveland with anything but a homer in his first at-bat.
Mays hit his 600th off San Diego pitcher Jack Corkins in September, 1969. Willie hit only 13 that season and just 60 more for his career, including 14 with the Mets between the 1972-73 seasons. When Mays Mays retired, he was third behind Babe Buth (714) and Hank Aaron (713) on the all-time list. He is fourth and probably will be passed by A-Rod during the 2012 season.
