A-Rod at-bat b-log

Bottom of the first: With Brett Gardner on third (double, error) and Mark Teixeira on first (hit by pitch), A-Rod walked on a full-count changeup that came in high and tight. Rodriguez only took one swing in the at-bat and missed for a swinging strike on the fifth pitch.

Whatever happens during the game, not a great night in the field so far for A-Rod, though it hasn't affected the score yet. He couldn't get to Jason Kendall's single down the left field line and then dropped the ball while trying to throw to Mark Teixeira for the last out of the top of the second. He recovered though and fired just in time to nab the runner. Pressure?

Bottom of the third: A-Rod's at-bat music, Jay-Z's "On To The Next One," couldn't be more fitting. But alas, not here. A-Rod grounds to third on the first pitch, but Wilson Betemit has to dive for the ball and couldn't get up in time to throw out Rodriguez.

Bottom of the fifth: With one out, A-Rod strikes out on an 88 mph fastball that just got the inside corner. A-Rod only swung at one pitch again, an 81 mph changeup on the fourth pitch of the at-bat that he fouled off. That's three swings tonight for A-Rod in three at-bats. You could say he's being selective.

The game is in a rain delay now (8:26 p.m.).

Grounds crew is out now (8:59 p.m.) and starting to take the weights off the tarp after a storm that was really more like having an ocean poured down upon you. No re-start time announced yet though.

Tarp coming off the field (9:07 p.m.). The puddles behind shortstop and in very shallow right field look ridiculous from up here. And by puddle I mean small river.

Yankees just announced a start time of 9:50 for resumption. Chad Gaudin warming for the Yankees and Victor Marte for the Royals.

Bottom of the seventh: This is likely A-Rod's last shot, unless the Royals come back and they need to use the bottom of the ninth. With nobody out, A-Rod singles to left and will probably have to get his crack at No. 600 tomorrow.

Bottom of the eighth: But no. A-Rod improbably gets up again and.......grounds JUST fair to the third baseman.
