A-Rod At-Bat B-Log

As Alex Rodriguez goes for his 600th home run again tonight, keep checking this blog for at-bat by at-bat breakdowns on the milestone watch:

Top of the first: Mark Teixeira doubles with two outs to extend the first inning and allow A-Rod to get up. Fausto Carmona starts A-Rod out with a slider and sinker out of the zone to put Rodriguez in a 2-0 hitters count, but A-Rod fouls off the next pitch, a 95-mph sinker. Carmona deals a low sinker for Ball 3, and Rodriguez drives in Teixeira with a single on a 95-mph sinker. An RBI, but still no homer.

Top of the second: Tex extends the inning again (and adds two RBIs) for A-Rod. Rodriguez pops up to shallow center though on a 90-mph first-pitch slider. On to the next one.

Top of the third: A-Rod up for the third consecutive inning. If nothing else, he'll certainly get plenty of opportunities for No. 600 tonight. Hector Ambriz (who throws about 94-mph heat) in now for Carmona. Ambriz takes A-Rod to a 3-2 count with the bases loaded and Rodriguez strikes out swinging on a foul-tipped 94-mph fastball to end the inning.

Top of the sixth: Jess Todd now in to pitch for the Indians. A-Rod takes the first pitch (slide) for a strike, fouls of another slider for strike two and then punches a fastball into the right field corner for a leadoff double.

Top of the eighth: A-Rod gets his fifth shot of the night against his fourth pitcher of the night, Frank Herrmann. Wow, Herrmann's got 96-mph heat and his curveball is all the way down at 81-mph. That's some nice separation there. A-Rod works the count to 3-2 before flying out to right on a 97-mph fastball. Former Yankee Shelley Duncan, caught the ball.
