A-Rod out of Tuesday's lineup

Alex Rodriguez said he wouldn’t be in the lineup for Tuesday night’s game but the third baseman hopes to return Wednesday.
“I think the plan is to play tomorrow,” Rodriguez said after signing autographs outside the Stadium’s Great Hall Tuesday afternoon.  "We haven’t been on the field for three or four days so basically we’ll do everything we can on the field today – field, run, hit, throw long toss. Come back for some more treatment, go through a little activation program with [strength and conditioning coordinator] Dana [Cavalea] in the weight room. And hopefully if we pass all of that we’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”
Rodriguez sat out this past weekend’s series against the Astros with tendinitis in his right hip flexor. He reiterated that he doesn’t believe the condition is related to the surgery he had on his hip last spring.
“Again, the one thing I’m hanging my hat on is the fact it has nothing to do with my hip injury,” Rodriguez said. “That’s obviously a blessing but I’m going to have to keep a close eye on it and go from there.”
A-Rod, who came out of Thursday night’s game in Baltimore after the first inning, said the hip felt “much better” Tuesday than it did then.
And A-Rod didn’t completely rule out a pinch hitting appearance for Tuesday.
“I’m going to have to talk to Joe [Girardi] about that,” Rodriguez said. “I think Joe will have a better answer after I do my routines.”
UPDATE, 4:11 P.M. Girardi just said A-Rod would be available to pinch hit tonight. Girardi said A-Rod is also expected to be in the lineup tomorrow if he does all of his pre-game work without a problem today.
