OAKLAND, Calif. — Joe Girardi is taking no chances with Alex Rodriguez’s strained right hamstring. Though the 40-year-old DH was eligible to come off the disabled list on Thursday, the plan now is for a return Tuesday when the Yankees, after an off day, start a three-game series against the Blue Jays at the Stadium.

“That’s probably what we’re looking at,” Girardi said. “Just give him those couple extra days to make sure he’s OK. But he’s feeling pretty good.”

A-Rod, who has run on the field before games during this seven-game road trip but hasn’t felt comfortable running full-out, had a .194/.275/.444 slash line through 20 games. He did hit three homers and drive in six runs in the five games before getting hurt.
