ARod: No HR, but gets 3 RBIs, Yanks win 11-4

We are less than 15 minutes away from Yankees-Indians and Alex Rodriguez' quest for his 600th career homer. If Rodriguez gets it tonight, he'll be the seventh player in MLB history to reach the 600-homer milestone.

He's had 26 at bats since hitting his 599th.

Opposing Rodriguez will be Mitch Talbot (8-9, 4.08 ERA). Rodriguez is 1-for-2 against Talbot with an RBI and a strikeout.

Check back here for an update on Rodriguez' quest.

Top of 1st: Derek Jeter flied out to right to start the game. Curtis Granderson struck out looking. Mark Teixeira flied out to center. No at-bat for A-Rod in the first. Check back in 15 minutes or so for the top of the second.

Bottom 1st: Cleveland took a 1-0 lead on a sac fly by Austin Kearns.

Top of 2nd: Sorry, no dice for Rodriguez in his first at bat. Rodriguez worked a leadoff walk on seven pitches. The Yankees loaded the bases, but Francisco Cervelli grounded into an inning-ending double play. Cleveland still leads, 1-0. No second at bat for ARod in the second.

Bottom 2nd: Nothing for Cleveland in the bottom of the second. Dustin Moseley induced an inning-ending double play. A couple of hits and A-Rod will get another shot at 600 in the third.

Top 3rd: Colin Curtis started off the inning with a seeing-eye single up the middle. Mitch Talbot left the game with an apparent injury. Rafael Perez is coming on in relief. Jeter worked a walk against Perez. Granderson advanced the runners with a perfect sac bunt to the third base side. Teixeira worked a walk, loading the bases the man of the hour, Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez hit a sac-fly to deep center, scoring Colin Curtis to tie the score 1-1. A-Rod is hitless with a walk and a sac fly in two plate appearances.

Bottom 3rd: Dustin Moseley breezed through the bottom of the inning. The score is tied, 1-1.

Top 4th: Sorry, no at bat for A-Rod in the fourth. The Yankees threatened with first and second and no one out, Perez got out of the jam with no damage. The score is still tied, 1-1, after three-plus innings. A-Rod will hit third in the fifth inning. BTW: The umpires switch baseballs everytime A-Rod comes to the plate.

Bottom 4th:Dustin Moseley had little trouble dealing with the Indians in the fourth. Score is still tied, 1-1. A-Rod coming up.

Top 5th: Granderson led off the inning with a double. Teixeira worked. A-Rod lined out to right for the first out of the inning. But Granderson tagged and moved to third. Nick Swisher flied out to deep left to end the inning. Score is still tied, 1-1.

Bottom 5th: It was another solid 1-2-3 inning for Dustin Moseley. If not for A-Rod being so close to 600 homers, Moseley would be the story tonight. The score is still knotted at 1.

Top 6th: Gardner started the inning with a walk. Two batters later Jeter singled home Gardner to give the Yanks a 2-1 lead. Granderson popped out to the catcher to end the inning. A-Rod will hit second in the seventh.

Bottom 6th: Moseley is still cruising. The Indians haven't had anyone past second base since the first inning. Yanks still lead 2-1. A-Rod is coming up.

Top 7th: Teixeira flied out to deep left. A-Rod came up empty again with a groundout to shortstop. Thats 28 at bats since his last homer. A-Rod is 0-for-2 with a walk and a sac-fly. Robinson Cano hit a solo shot to right to give the Yanks a 3-1 lead. After walks to Swisher and Gardner, Cervelli singled home Swisher with a single to right centerfield to give the Yanks a 4-1 lead. Colin Curtis was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Jeter walked, forcing in Gardner to give the Yanks a 5-1 lead. Granderson singled to right, scoring Cervelli and Curtis to give the Yanks a 7-1 lead.Teixeira walked, forcing in a run to give the Yanks an 8-1 lead. A-Rod is up. No homer for A-Rod, but he singled to center, scoring Jeter to give the Yanks a 9-1 lead. Cano grounded out to short to end the inning. But the Yanks scored seven times.

Bottom 7th: David Robertson relieved Moseley and the Indians went down, 1-2-3. A-Rod may see another at bat. Swisher, Gardner and Cervelli are due up. A couple of hits (and no double play) would guarantee at least one more at bat for A-Rod.

Top 8th: Swisher led off the inning with a double. Marcus Thames, pinch-hitting for Gardner struck out. Cervelli struck out. Colin Curtis singled to right. Ramiro Pena, pinch-hitting for Jeter, singled to centerfield, scoring Swisher to give the Yanks a 10-1 lead. It looks like A-Rod, barring Joe Girardi bringing in a pinch-hitter, will get one more at bat. Granderson singled. Juan Miranda, pinch-hitting, singled to right, scoring a run to give the Yankees an 11-1 lead. A-Rod is up. No home runs for A-Rod tonight. He struck out swinging. A-Rod ends the night 1-for-4 with a walk, a sac-fly and three RBIs.

Yankee fans will have to waitt until tomorrow to see A-Rod bat again.

Bottom 8th: Chan Ho Park pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning.

Top 9th: Andy Marte came on to pitch the ninth for the Indians. Why is this significant? Marte is a third/first baseman for the Indians. He's the seventh pitcher the Indians used. And he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

Bottom 9th: Speaking of playing out of position, Marcus Thames is playing third base for the Yanks. It's the first time in his professional career Thames is playing third. Unfortunately for Thames, his first play was a disaster as he overthrew first place and allowed the second run of the inning to score. Park was shaky, giving up three walks, two hits and three runs (2 earned). Yanks win 11-4.

A-Rod's 600th will have to wait for this weekend in Tampa.
