DETROIT -- Lost a bit in Joe Girardi's arm-waving, hat-tossing, umpire-mocking tirade that honored the memories of Earl Weaver and Billy Martin was an indisputable fact:

Third-base umpire Tim Welke got the call right.

But only after getting it wrong milliseconds earlier, which was the problem.
