GM Brian Cashman was succinct in a text message Friday afternoon, responding “not true” to an accusation of tampering involving Red Sox lefthander Andrew Miller made Friday morning by MLB analyst Peter Gammons.

“I know this,” Gammons said on WEEI in Boston. “There were a lot of teams that tampered and tried to get him to do the opt-out, including the New York Yankees. A lot of teams wanted him to opt out on Wednesday.”

Miller could pitch Monday as a replacement for Clay Buchholz, who left Thursday night’s start early with lower-back stiffness.
