C.J. Wilson never has faced the Yankees as a starter, but thanks to a bout of food poisoning, his second start of the season was pushed back to tonight's series opener against the Yankees at the Stadium. In his last outing, Wilson pitched seven scoreless innings against Toronto and left with a 1-0 lead but didn't get the victory when the Blue Jays rallied for a 3-1 win. In 17 previous appearances as a reliever against the Yankees, Wilson compliled a 3.24 ERA but was 0-2.
This is Sabbathia's first start against the Rangers as a Yankee, but in his career, he's 7-3 with a 4.50 ERA against the Rangers. New Ranger Vladimir Guerrero (.300) and Michael Young (.385) have been particularly successful against Sabbathia, but he is coming off a start in which he pitched 7 2/3 innings of no-hit ball before Tampa Bay's Kelly Shoppach broke it up with a clean single.
Texas is 3-0 in series openers so far this season.
