Elvis Andrus, the Rangers shortstop and leadoff batter, clearly sets the tone and tempo for the team. It turns out he also supplies the melody.
Andrus admitted that he was nervous against the Rays in his first postseason series, but he has learned how to deal with the pressure. “I trick my mind,” he said at Yankee Stadium yesterday. “Whenever I get a pressure time, I kind of like to sing by myself. Inside, that makes me relax.”
What would you expect from a guy named Elvis? So what are his greatest hits? “It depends. It’s got to be the song of the day. One day it can be reggaeeton, one day it can be hip hop, or country. The song that I had in my head that day is going to be the one to relax myself,” he said. When he was asked to name the soundtrack for his steal of home Saturday, he added, “I’m not really nervous when I’m running.”
