Expect Posada to report early

Here's an interesting tidbit as we count down the days to spring training. Pitchers and catchers report to Tampa on Monday, Feb. 14. So will Jorge Posada, now the former starting catcher and new designated hitter, be among the early arrivals?

Certainly. Posada will likely take an elder statesman role in monitoring the position and the players who will handle the duties. There is also plenty of work in getting free agent Russell Martin up to speed on the pitching staff.

Posada is also expected to see some time behind the plate and with Martin coming off a serious hip injury, who knows what will transpire during the season.
