Former Yankee Jason Giambi, 40, made his first visit to New York since 2009, but in the late stages of his career, he’s been relegated to a pinch-hitting role with the Rockies along with spot starts at first base. “It’s different,’’ said Giambi, who homered off A.J. Burnett and had three hits in the Rockies’ 4-2 win Friday. “You put the ego aside, and I’ve always been taught that’s what this game is about. You start passing it on to different generations, and that’s why I came here: to help some of these young players. I never even thought about it, but I ended up liking the role. It’s kept me in the game longer . . . I could do this role until I’m 45. They might be wheeling me up to the plate. It’s been fun. I love it. It’s a tough role, no doubt, because it’s tough to find a routine. It’s a real challenge.’’
