What do we make of Curtis Granderson’s mostly disappointing first half? He has four home runs,17 runs batted in and is hitting just .241.
This is the same player who hit 30 homers last season for Detroit. The lefthanded batter was acquired to take aim at the right field seats. The team and its fans are still waiting. He had his best stats in April.
The straight up comparison to Johnny Damon doesn’t quite work because Damon, while hitting. 294, has three homers and 18 RBIs for the Tigers. But the belief exists that Damon would have had a better year with the Yankees.
The bigger comparison comes with Carl Crawford, the free agent in waiting of the Rays. He has 21 stolen bases to go along with a .296 average that includes six homers and 35 RBIs.
That conversation will gain momentum as the season winds on.
