44° Good Afternoon

It's been almost 11 years since a Yank pitched a no-hitter

OK, with all the excitement over Phil Hughes' near no-hitter, my 6-year-old son wanted to know when was the last time a Yankee pitcher pulled off the feat.

Yankee skipper Joe Girardi, of course, knows the answer to that one since he was the catcher when David Cone pitched a perfect game against the Montreal Expos on July 18, 1999.

For the record, here's the list of Yankee no-hitters:

David Cone: 6-0 win over Expos on July 18, 1999.
David Wells: 4-0 over Twins on May 17, 1998.
Dwight Gooden: 2-0 win over Seattle on May 14, 1996.
Jim Abbott: 4-0 win over Indians on Sept. 4, 1993.
Dave Righetti: 4-0 win over Red Sox on July 4, 1983.
Don Larsen: 2-0 win over Brooklyn Dodgers on Oct. 8, 1956 (World Series).
Allie Reynolds (twice): 8-0 win over Red Sox on Sept. 28, 1951 AND 1-0 win over Indians on July 12, 1951.
Monte Pearson: 13-0 win over Indians on Aug. 27, 1938.
Sad Sam Jones: 2-0 win over Philadelphia Athletics on Sept. 3, 1923.
George Mogridge: 2-1 win over Red Sox on April 24, 1917.
