First, let's close the book on CC Sabathia:
6 inn., 11 hits, 2 earned runs, O BB, 7 Ks
Good outing for Sabathia. He wasn't his best, but he battled and got the key outs when he needed them. Basically, he put the Yankees in position to win the game.
Joe Girardi decided to go with Kerry Wood in the seventh. Can't say I disagree with the move. Sabathia gave Girardi all he could. The Rangers had runners on in every inning against Sabathia.
Elvis Andrus led off the top of the seventh inning with a weak chopper that Wood couldn't bare hand. Wood then had a pitch sail right over the head of Posada, putting Andrus at second.
Wood got a key out, striking out Michael Young on a high fastball, clocked at 93 mph. Then a key play. Andrus got caught leaning and was picked off by Wood and Derek Jeter. Horrible play by Andrus. Wood struck out Josh Hamilton.
That inning by Wood went about as well as the Yankees could've hoped. They'd likely want another inning like that by Wood and then go to Mo.
