Far away from the snow and cold of New York--and comments about his position in the field--Derek Jeter worked out at today at the Yankees' complex in Tampa.
Jeter reported early to work on his swing with batting coach Kevin Long. Jeter hit in the batting cage and fielded grounders, according to the Associated Press.
Position players are not required to report before Feb. 19 with the first workout scheduled for Feb. 20.
Jeter was the subject of an early morning stir when Yankees general manager Brian Cashman suggested to WFAN's Mike Francesa that Jeter could be moved from shortstop to the outfield at some point during the four years of his new contract. Cashman later said he was only speaking in hypotheticals.
The only time Jeter spent in the outfield yesterday, the AP report stated, came when he played catch before starting infield drills.
