Reliever Joba Chamberlain has a torn ligament in his throwing arm, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday during his pregame talk with reporters.
Chamberlain was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with what the team called a strained flexor, something he had been pitching with for some time.
Although no official word has been given, it's likely that Chamberlain will need surgery to repair the injury. Girardi said the based on the injury, "I don't know how you avoid [surgery]."
