Joe Girardi held a team meeting before Derek Jeter's finale at the Stadium but contradicted a published report saying the manager lit into his team.

"I just wanted them to know what we expect next year," Girardi said. "None of us are happy that we're not playing next week."

Several clubhouse insiders backed Girardi's characterization of the meeting as being mostly about expectations and using the offseason to get ready for next season, with none describing Girardi as angry, something else from the report with which the manager took issue.

"I was direct in the message I wanted to get across," Girardi said. "But as you know, that's my personality."
