FINAL: Yankees (59-34) defeat the Angels (51-46) 10-6 on the strength of a pinch-hit three run homer by Colin Curtis. Curtis' first home run in the Majors.

WP: Javier Vazquez (8-7)

LP: Joel Pineiro (10-7)

Top 9th: Straight work for Rivera, strikes out the Yankees premier nemesis on the night -- Rivera -- swinging to end the game. Rivera doesn't pick up a save in the non-save situation. Yankees 10, Angels 6

Bottom 8th: After Rich Thompson replaces Scott Shields on the mound for the Angels, Teixera, Rodriguez and Cano can't produce anything extra for the Yankees. With a four run lead, Mariano Rivera --who was warming in the Yankee bullpen -- will come in to close the game in a non-save situation. Yankees 10, Angels 6

Top 8th: Angels stick in the game heading into their last frame at the plate. Thanks to former Yankee Bobby Abreu, again, the Angels tally one run in the inning on an Abreu sacrifice ground out versus Chamberlain. Yankees 10, Angels 6

Bottom 7th: Juan Miranda hit a solo-shot to center field to double the Yankee edge with one out. After Brett Gardner was ejected by home-plate umpire Paul Emmel. pinch hitter Colin Curtis hits a three run homer to double the Yankees tally from the start of the inning. His first home run in the MLB... Yankees 10, Angels 5

Top 7th: Chamberlain relieves Boone Logan. With two outs Chamberlain walks Mike Napoli after Torii Hunter stole second. With runners on first and second, Juan Rivera loads the bases on an infield single. But Chamberlain escapes the inning getting Frandsen to ground out. Yankees 6, Angels 5

Bottom 6th: Swisher strikes out to begin the inning. Pineiro after 107 pitches is looking strong, getting Teixera and A-Rod to groundout. Boone Logan was warming in the pen for the Yanks. Yankees 6, Angels 5

Top 6thMatsui hits his third homer against the Yankees this season to draw the Angels within one at 6-5. Vazquez leaves the game prior to reaching the 90 pitch count in favor of Robertson. Robertson struggles as well. With two outs and Frandersen and Rivera on first and second, Erick Aybar singles to left -- but Rivera was held up at third, barely beating the throw off the cutoff. Robertson then gets behind 3-1 to Kendrick. On 3-2, Kendrick flys out to Swisher. Yankees 6, Angels 5

Bottom 5th: Granderson strikes out, Cervelli doubles off of the left field wall. Pineiro escapes the inning with one man left on base and a pitch shy of 100 striking out Jeter looking. Yankees 6, Angels 3

Top 5th: So much for Javier Vazquez keeping his pitch count low. After 9, 9, and 11 pitch innings and 35 pitches overall. Former Yankee Juan Rivera works a nine-pitch at bat versus Vazquez and hits a double down the left field line. The Angels finally get on the board via a Frandersen single driving in Rivera. After another long at bat for an Angel versus Vazquez, Bobby Wilson hits a two-run shot to draw the Angels within three. Vazquez escapes the 40 pitch inning striking out Abreu Yankees 6, Angels 3

Bottom 4th: Pineiro starts the inning nearing 60 pitches. After a Gardner groundout, Jeter fights off another inside pitch for another single. Swisher then singles up the middle as well. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Teixera pokes a double down the left-field line for his thrid RBI on the day. Swisher holds up at third. Rodriguez then, grounds out for the second out of the inning. Cano, was then intentionally walked -- for the third time this series -- to load the bases. Miranda then worked the count to 3-1 but grounded to second to end the inning. Bases left loaded.  Yankees 6, Angels 0

Top 4th: Despite an Abreu lead-off double, more smooth sailing for Javier Vazquez. Pitch count is at 36 after an 11 pitch inning. Stark contrast for two pitchers... Yankees 5, Angels 0

Bottom 3rd: Another single for Jeter to start the inning, and just like in the first, he scored -- this time with Swisher. The Yankees take the lead to 3-0 off another Teixera shot, a long single off the wall. The first basemen drove in Jeter and Swisher with no outs. Pineiro got the first out of the inning after Rodriguez sent a shot deep to left field that Matsui barely tracked down at the wall in front of the bleachers.

But what Rodriguez couldn't do, Robinson Cano could. The Yankees are having their way with Pineiro as his sinker has been up. Cano hit a two-run shot, after being intentionally walked in the first inning. With two outs Granderson singled, but Cervelli grounded out. Yankees 5, Angels 0

Top 3rd: More and more of the same when the Yankees take the field. Another nine pitch quick inning from Vazquez, and more action for Granderson as he fields a Kendrick fly. Yankees 1, Angels 0

Bottom 2nd: Pineiro shuts down the Yankees in the second. Gets the bottom part of the order out 1, 2, 3 with Gardner grounding out to end the inning. Pineiro is at 34 pitches after two. Yankees 1, Angels 0

Top 2nd: Vazquez provides a quick inning of work over nine pitches, getting Matsui to ground out to Teixera. Napoli and Rivera shortly followed. After one and a half the Yanks with the slight lead. Yankees 1, Angels 0

Bottom 1st: Jeter leads off the game with a single, and it ends in retribution as Jeter scored the Yankees first run of the game on a sacrifice ground by Alex Rodriguez. Jeter, with heady baserunning, reached third on a Teixera double prior to A-Rod. Teixera was stranded by DH Juan Miranda. Yankees 1, Angels 0

Top 1st: After Erick Aybar singled to center, Vazquez settled down to get Kendrick, Abreu and Hunter. Abreu and Hunter both flyed out to Curtis Granderson. Yankees 0, Angels 0
