Live blog: Yankees vs. Blue Jays

FINAL SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 3

WP: Andy Pettite (10-2)

LP: Ricky Romero (6-5)

Top 9th: Boos rain down when Chan Ho Park takes the mound to start the inning. Despite the jeers he had a 1-2-3 inning. After blowing chances in closer games, it seems fit that Girardi would want him to get some confidence in a game that's out of reach. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 3

Bottom 8th: Pena grounds out, Swisher strikes out looking at an outside heater and Colin Curtis, hitting for Teixeira, went down swinging. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 3.

Top 8th: With the game out of reach, Jeter and Arod were replaced with Ramiro Pena and Kevin Russon. Moseley continued his solid debut, recording his second strike out and pitching his second scoreless inning. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 3

Bottom 7th: Casey Jansen relieves Bill Tallet.  Granderson grounded out to short to start the inning. Though he has a hit today, he has 4 hits in his last 22 at bats (.181). Huffman struck out and the Grand Man of the Day, Gardner, grounded to second. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 3

Top 7th: Dustin Moseley relieves Pettitte. Pettitte's final line: 6 IP, 5 hits, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 BBs, 2 HRs. He threw 97 pitches, 62 of which were strikes. Pettitte has thrown six innings or more in all but two starts this season. Moseley pitched well in his first appearance of the year, sending the Jays down in order and striking out a batter. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 3

Bottom 6th: The Yankees may have given everything they had today in the third inning. Teixeira led off the inning with a double off the left field wall, but no one could drive him home. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 3.

Top 6th: A smudge to Pettite's stat line since the first inning, Gonzalez hit his 15th homer of the year over the left field fence. He leads all AL shortstops in home runs. He is at 97 total pitches, so we'll see if he comes back for the 7th. He has thrown seven or more innings in six of his last seven starts. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 3.

Bottom 5th: Gardner walked, but Jeter grounded into a double play. Swisher grounded out. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 2.

Top 5th: Pettitte induced a pop up, ground out and struck out Green swinging on a low-and-in curveball. He's on cruise control and has 77 total pitches through five. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 2.

Bottom 4th: Posada and Granderson grounded out. Huffman struck out to end the inning. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 2.

Top 3rd: Sitting on the bench did not make Pettitte stiff. With a hefty lead, Pettitte is in a groove. His cutter was sharp and he put the Jays down 1-2-3 for the second consecutive inning. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 2.

Bottom 3rd: The Yankees exploded for eleven runs in a slugfest this inning, highlighted by Teixeira's two-run double and a grand slam by Gardner. With the bases loaded and no outs, Teixeira tied the game with a first-pitch double down the third base line. Arod put the team on top with a fielder's choice to short that allowed Swisher to score and moved Teixeira to third. Cano then scorched a single into the right field corner to drive home Teixeira. Romero continued to unravel, getting deep into counts and hitting Hoffman with a pitch. Then came the lighting -- Gardner's grand slam, his second hit of the inning -- and the thunder -- the roar from the crowd that left Romero shook and crestfallen. Romero was taken out of the game after that, giving up eight earned runs. Bill Tallet was brought in to relieve with two outs. But he could not stop the bleeding. Tallet walked three straight batters before getting Arod to hit a fly ball to left, but left fielder Josh McDonald lost it in the sun and three runs came in on the double. The Yankees tied a franchise high for runs in an inning, last scoring eleven runs on August 6, 1979. SCORE: Yankees 11, Blue Jays 2.

Top 3rd: Pettitte got back on track with a seven-pitch inning. He started off by striking out yesterday's hero,Gonzalez, on a high fastball and finished the inning on two quick outs. SCORE: Yankees 0, Blue Jays 2.

Bottom 2nd: The Yankees broke out of a 5 2/3 innings hitless funk thanks to a double by Posada that bounced around the right field corner. But Romero mowed down two batters, including an inning-ending strike out of Hoffman. SCORE: Yankees 0, Blue Jays 2.

Top 2nd: Pettitte bounced back with a 1-2-3 inning. SCORE: Yankees 0, Blue Jays 2.

Bottom 1st: Blue Jays pitchers retired the final 13 Yankees in yesterday's game. Jeter broke the streak with a walk, but the Yankees went hitless in the inning. SCORE: Yankees 0, Blue Jays 2.

Top 1st: The Yankees are down early. Bautista hit a two-run homer on a high-and-away fastball for his AL-leading 21st of the year. Pettitte struggled afterward, giving up a walk and then a shallow fly to center, eventually getting out of the inning and stranding the runners. Pettitte's 26-pitch inning does not bode well for the team's taxed bullpen--Girardi used five pitchers yesterday. A highlight in the inning was Chad Huffman's diving catch in right.  SCORE: Yankees 0, Blue Jays 2.
