Cashman didn’t say anything to counter what’s been the prevailing thought all season: 2011 was Jorge Posada’s final year with the Yankees.
“He’s been one of the best catchers in Yankee history and a borderline Hall of Famer,” Cashman said. “That’s something we’ll have to discuss here in the short term but not something I’m prepared to talk about today. But he’s been a special player for us for a long time. We’ve been very, very proud to have Jorgie.”
It is still not known whether the 40-year-old Posada, who went 6-for-14, including a triple, in the ALDS loss to the Tigers, will look to sign a free-agent deal with another team.
Catcher Francisco Cervelli, meanwhile, who missed the final three weeks of the season and postseason with a concussion, is “full-bore ready to go,” Cashman said
