Pettitte pushes it, has discomfort, and is shut down for six days

Andy Pettitte was feeling better this week, but experienced discomfort in his injured groin Tuesday.

Sunday marks five weeks since Pettitte's injury, the estimated time trainers expected the groin to heal. Pettitte said he still feels a "tug" from his groin. "It tells me don't do that," he said after pushing himself harder in his bullpen session.

Joe Girardi said Pettitte will not throw any bullpen sessions for six days, but he is allowed to still play catch to keep his arm loose.

"To say I'm frustrated, that's an understatement," Pettitte said. "It was in Tampa I [said] I thought I was a week ahead of schedule. When I get on the mound, again yesterday I felt unbelievable, I felt great. And then I tried to turn the intensity up again, like I would if I was to face a hitter .... with that intensity. It's just not allowing me to push when I want to go real, real hard there's some irritation in there.

"I'm sure you all know the story now. I got an MRI yesterday and it still shows a strain in there, so I've just got to rest it. I've got to rest it for another week."
