Joe Girardi said before leaving for this afternoon’s game against the Braves in Kissimmee, he communicated with Mark Teixeira, who left last night’s game after getting hit on his right elbow with a pitch.
“I texted him today,” Girardi said. “He’ll come in for a lot of treatment today and we’ll see where we’re at.”
*** Girardi didn’t rule out a trip to the DL for Alfredo Aceves, who is battling a lower back problem.
“I think we have to have him throw another time before we leave to see how he is or he’s probably a candidate [for the DL] then,” Girardi said. “We have to see how he is.”
That said, “I’m pretty confident we will [be able to get him in a game],” Girardi said. “I think it [his back] will calm down. It calmed down a lot from Sunday to Monday.”
*** CC Sabathia, scheduled to bat ninth (NL rules are in effect) is absolutely forbidden from swinging the bat today
“He asked about drag bunting. I said no,” Girardi said.
Yankees’ pitchers will bat in games at Los Angeles, Arizona and at the Mets this season.
“He’ll get his chances [to hit],” Girardi said. “Just not today.”
“It is really hard for them to just go up there and stand ther,” Girardi said later. “It’s against everything that has helped them to get to this point in their career.”
*** Girardi said switch-pitcher Pat Venditte, barring something unforeseen, will definitely get in this afternoon.
