Had Jorge Cantu and C.J. Wilson made that play against Brett Gardner Friday night, we might be looking at a whole different series now. Maybe the Yankees wouldn't have had that rousing comeback to win Game 1 (although something tells me they would have).
Cliff Lee proved he can not only command the mound as well as anyone in the game, he also can get off ot it in a hurry. He raced there for the flip from Mitch Moreland to retire Gardner on the same kind of hands-first slide that he made in the eighth inning Friday. Gardner was out this time.
That was mostly because, as replays showed, Gardner did not touch the bag with his hand as he slid by. It was also because Lee got there in time to make that close play.
