After today's season finale in Baltimore against the Orioles, the Yankees return home to play three games against the Houston Astros.
The Astros are definitely in disarray at 24-36. And judging by the scheduled starters, the Yankees could have a big weekend with the bats.
Friday: Brett Myers (4-3, 3.01). Myers has been the Astros' best starter this season
Saturday: Wandy Rodriguez (3-8, 4.95). Rodriguez has lost four of his last five starts, but he's only given up more than three earned runs in one of those games.
Sunday: Brian Moehler (0-2, 6.12). Moehler will soon head back to the bullpen. But he's pitched well in his last two games.
The Astro I'm most interested in is ace Roy Oswalt (3-8, 3.22), who has said he would waive his no-trade clause to play for a winner. I think Oswalt going to the Mets is a more likely scenario. But would the Yankees have interest in Oswalt? You would think that the Yankees will target Cliff Lee if they're looking to upgrade their starting rotation. But CC, Burnett, Pettitte and Phil Hughes give the Yankees four quality starters. It will be very interesting to hear what Oswalt has to say this weekend -- because he will be asked about pitching in New York, whether it's the Yankees or Mets.
