Thome stays with Twins for $3 million

Jim Thome, needing only 11 homers for 600 in his career, will remain with the Twins.

The Twins announced that they reached agreement on a one-year deal that is said to be worth $3 million to retain the designated hitter.

Thome batted .283 with 25 homers last season and helped make up for the loss of Justin Morneau, who missed the last three months of  the season with a concussion.

Thome is a five-time All-Star with a .278 batting average, 589 homers and 2,216 hits in 20 big league seasons.
