Interesting pitching matchup for today's finale of the three-game series at Camden Yards. The Yankees go for the sweep with A.J. Burnett on the mound.
Burnett is having a good season -- 6-3, 3.72 ERA. Over his last five starts, it's been a mix the good with the bad:
May 14 vs. Minnesota: two earned runs in 6.2 innings -- ND
May 19 vs. Tampa Bay: six earned runs, nine hits in 6.2 innings -- L
May 25 vs. Minnesota: no earned runs, three hits in 5 innings -- W
May 30 vs. Cleveland: one earned run, five hits, eight strikeouts and no walks in eight innings -- W
June 4 vs. Toronto: six earned and six hits in six innings -- L
One alarming statistic over those games for Burnett has been walks. He allowed four walks against Minnesota on May 14, Tampa Bay on May 19 and Toronto on June 4.
Burnett, however, is 11-2 in his career against the Orioles. He's never lost at Camden Yards (5-0 in seven starts).
For Baltimore, Jake Arrieta will make his Major League debut. In 12 games (11 starts) for Norfolk, Arrieta was 6-2 with a 1.85 ERA (64 strikeouts).
