It will be a short trip to Anaheim for those Yankees who will be participating in the All-Star game next week. The Yankees wrap up the final week before the break with a seven-game west coast trip in Oakland and Seattle. To the dismay of many interested in the Alex Rodriguez mound saga, the Yankees will not see Athletics starting pitcher Dallas Braden in Oakland during the three-game set. They will see some quality pitching, however. Tonight's match-up:
Javier Vazquez (6-7, 5.11 ERA): The righthander hopes to resemble the pitcher that posted four consecutive quality starts to begin the month of June. After going 0-2 in his last three starts, Vazquez gets a gift tonight in facing the light-hitting Athletics.
Ben Sheets (3-7, 4.98 ERA): Signed to a one-year $10 million contract in the offseason, Sheets was expected to be the ace of a strong staff. Three months into the season he may be considered the rotation's weakest link. The four-time all-star who missed all of 2009 after elbow surgery has won just one game since May 8.
