-Here are the Tigers' career numbers off Sabathia, a collective .271 average, led by Cabrera, who is 7-for-11 (.636) with two homers and nine RBIs off the burly lefty.

Current Yankees are hitting .234 off Verlander, led by Jeter, who is 7-for-18 (.389) off the 27-year old righty. All seven hits are singles. Swisher is only 7-for-38 (.184) with 14 strikeouts against Verlander, but three of those hits are home runs.

-Verlander is 4-2 with a 3.63 ERA in seven career outings the Yankees, and 2-1 with a 0.87 ERA in three of those starts opposing Sabathia.

-The Tigers are on their first three-game winning streak since a five-game run on July 5-10.

-The Yankees, who are 6-9 in August, have scored just two runs in their last two games. They have scored three or fewer runs in eight games this month.

Said Jeter after last night's game: "We're not swinging the bats like we'd like to."
