- Former Yankees manager Joe Torre and Dick Groch, the scout who signed Derek Jeter, were in the crowd awaiting hit No, 3,000 Thursday night. Asked how many family and friends were in attendance, Jeter said "a lot.''

- The Yankees held a moment of silence for the late Hall of Fame manager Dick Williams before the game. Williams, who was one of only two managers to lead three teams to the World Series, died Thursday at 82.
