Why you should be excited and cautious about the Yankees in 2016

Three reasons to be excited

1. Triple threat

It will be difficult for the bullpen to be better than last season, but the trio of Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances certainly makes it possible.

2. Starlin upgrade

Even with less than two months total experience at second base, Castro gives the Yankees an athletic presence on that side of the infield not seen there since Robinson Cano headed to Seattle.

3. Sir Didi

After a horrendous start to his Yankees career, Didi Gregorius was solid at the plate — a .281/.331/.403 slash line from May 20 on — and mostly terrific in the field. He and Castro up the middle will turn some head-swiveling double plays.

Three reasons to be cautious

1. Hold your breath

The Yankees have seen fourth-fifths of their rotation land on the DL each of the last two seasons and there are health questions about everyone except Luis Severino, who is just 22, this year.

2. Hold your breath II

From left to right in the outfield — Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran — there are DL concerns.

3. Repeat performance?

Alex Rodriguez (33) and Mark Teixeira (31) combined to hit 64 homers last year. Strong years are needed from both, which might be asking a lot.
