Yankees news and notes: Joe Girardi reported that A.J. Burnett came through his bullpen session “fine” yesterday…he said that the team would go day-by-day to see how both A-Rod and Jorge Posada were feeling during the National League road trip the team is abut to embark on. Because the games will be played in NL parks, Girardi doesn’t have the option to use a DH.

Mets news and notes: Manuel said that John Maine didn’t feel well after his latest rehab start and is going to be evaluated on a day-by-day basis. He indicated the problem was physical, but wasn’t sure of the exact issue. “He’s not comfortable with how he’s pitching right now.”

Captain’s Back: A day after he was scratched from the lineup for a heel issue, Derek Jeter is back and leading off. “Everything’s great,” he said. “It’s sore, no big deal.”

On the Mark: Mark Teixeira has now hit safely in nine of his last 11 games and scored at least one run in 10 of his last 12 games. He is now hitting .224 with a .342 OBP, 11 home runs, 40 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He is tied with Brett Gardner for the second most runs on the team, tied with Nick Swisher for the second most home runs and is fourth in runs batted in.

Still Rolling: The Mets are 7-1 on their current road trip, and have raised their road record to 13-19. Prior to this trip, they had just 8 wins outside of Citi Field.

Streaking Pagan: After reaching base three times yesterday, Pagan now has an eight game hitting streak. He’s batting .353 during that time.

That’s Why You Play the Game: The Mets are 26-7 when Jose Reyes scores a run. Not only did he score a run yesterday, he scored two on a pair of home runs, but the Mets still fell.

Extreme in the Bronx: Ty Pennington is on the field rehearsing for an episode of Extreme Home Makeover, the opening of which will be taped at the stadium before the game.
