The Bombers bludgeoned CY Young candidate Trevor Cahill in last night’s 11-5 win, so it’s unlikely that tonight’s starter Vin Mazzaro is entering the game with an abundance of confidence. It doesn’t help that he’s facing a 15-game winner in Phil Hughes.
Mazzaro (6-6, 3.61 ERA) scattered seven hits over 6 1/3 innings of three-run ball in Thursday's road loss to the Indians. The 23-year-old righty is 0-4 with a 3.89 ERA across his past six starts.
Hughes (15-6, 4.12 ERA) had arguably his worst start of 2010 in Toronto, allowing five runs on six hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings, his shortest outing of the year. Hughes hadn't allowed more than three earned runs in his prior six starts.
