Yes, Cliff Lee will pitch in the next Yankees game, just as most people associated with the club had assumed. Only it won’t be Saturday night in Texas. It will be in a Yankee uniform, against Detroit on March 31. This result will make the club only that much more determined to sign the great postseason pitcher.
But as for now, it’s ballgame over. Yankees lose.
The Yankees were soundly beaten in every phase of the game last night and for just about all of the past week. Every time there was a big play to be made, a big moment to meet, the Texas Rangers made it and met it. The Yankees didn’t.
It wasn’t even a matter of being totally dominated by Lee. He was great when he pitched, but he pitched only one game. The Yankees were shut down tonight by Colby Lewis, a journeyman and hardly the type of big-name, big-money pitcher the Yankees always try to sign.
Lots of soul-searching ought to be done in the Bronx after this 6-1 loss and 4-2 Series drubbing.
