So the Yankees are officially in on Yu Darvish, as expected, and they seem like longshots to get him.

My bet is on Toronto. We'll find out no later than Tuesday, and probably before then.

--Derek Jeter, repeating comments he has made countless times, told Barbara Walters that he would like to own a team someday.

--Johan Santana is hoping to be ready for Opening Day, David Lennon reports. But as the story indicates, and as we've discussed many times here, there's absolutely no guarantee that Santana can be even a viable major-league pitcher ever again, never mind anything approaching his old self. The surgery he underwent in September 2010 was very serious. All bets are off until we see him pitch competitively in a big-league game.

--The Mets announced the signing of Jon Rauch.

--Major League Baseball continues to support the Mets, warily. The report of the $40 million bridge loan didn't change anything; MLB knew about the loan before it became public.Still, as we discussed two days ago, Bud Selig wants the Wilpons and Saul Katz to somehow survive this fierce storm.

If the Mets can actually line up this $200 million in investments by January, as Sandy Alderson said, then that would allow them to tread water for the short term. But the Irving Picard lawsuit looms, and I sure wouldn't be much on this ownership's long-term viability.

--Andres Torres says he can help the Mets. I remain skeptical, but he is a curious case. For a guy who'll be 34 by next Opening Day, he really lacks big-league experience - just 1,423 career plate appearances. And his major-league seasons have run all over the spectrum, from fantastic (2009, and 2010) to terrible (2003 and 2011) with very little in between.

--Contest today? Contest today. Maybe even on the earlier side.
