The New York Gotham Ballers will launch the inaugural season of the Champions Basketball League at NYCB Live’s Nassau Coliseum on Aug. 23 against the Los Angeles SuperStars.
The Champions Basketball League is a new professional league made up of former NBA players and played during the summer. The games will be five-on-five with full-court NBA regulation play.
The Gotham Ballers’ game against the SuperStars starts at 7 p.m. The event will include a pre-game youth shoot around and post-game meet and greet with the players.
“We’re thrilled to bring this great talent to Long Island, who are all former NBA players, have passion for the game, and have a fierce competitive spirit,” league president Mark Aguirre said. “We’re looking forward to our 2017 Showcase Season, which will make for great basketball and will introduce the league to fans in New York and across the country.”
Former Knicks Al Harrington and Kenyon Martin are among the players for the Gotham Ballers. The SuperStars feature Mike Bibby and Carlos Boozer. Knicks Hall of Famers Walt “Clyde” Frazier is the Gotham Ballers president and Earl Monroe is the general manager. Former Knick John Wallace is the Gotham Ballers coach.
Games will also feature live performances, a DJ, and contests.
The inaugural season will culminate in a championship tournament in Las Vegas on Sept. 28-30.
