If a player misses a jumpshot from the top of the key, where is the ball usually rebounded? Kirk Goldsberry has the answer.
Goldsberry, a visiting scholar at the Harvard Center for Geographic Analysis and an assistant professor of Geography at Michigan State, compiled an interactive project that allows users to view where balls are rebounded from missed shots around the court. The results are displayed in heat-map form.
This isn't the first interactive that Goldsberry has publshed on his website, courtvisionanalytics.com. He compared former Celtic Ray Allen to new Celtic Jason Terry last week, and also helped the New York Times with a massive player-by-player shot chart project ahead of the NBA Finals that we also blogged about in the Drib.
