BOSTON -- As expected, Chauncey Billups is out for tonight's Game 2 of this best-of-seven series with the Celtics. Mike D'Antoni said Billups, who suffered a left knee strain late in Game 1, is "day-to-day" and of the veteran point guard's availability for Friday's Game 3 at Madison Square Garden, D'Antoni said, "I don't know."
"We’ll go back and evaluate, see how fast he mends and the pain level and all that," D'Antoni added. "It’s day-to-day, but we’ll figure it out.”
Second-year guard Toney Douglas will start and veteran Anthony Carter will serve in the backup role. Billups was placed on the inactive list for the game. Forward Derrick Brown took his place on the active roster.
“It’s not something you’d like It happened, [but] I’ve got total confidence in Toney," D'Antoni said. "We won’t change a whole lot. The game … we’ll still do what we wanted to do and we’ll do it with Toney. We’re hoping he has a good game and if he has a great game, then it’s minimal and if he doesn’t, then it’s a big, big loss.”
