Carmelo Anthony: Knicks need to play harder

The Knicks aren’t playing hard enough.

We’re paraphrasing, but that’s basically what Carmelo Anthony said before the Knicks faced the Raptors, and you can’t argue with him.

The Knicks have slid since starting the season 18-5. They’re not showing the same passion or urgency and they have been exposed defensively.

So Anthony was asked what has to change after the Knicks gave up 125 points in Indiana Wednesday and lost by 34.

“Just our mentality, our approach, our focus coming into these games and most importantly is our effort,” Anthony said. “We haven’t been giving effort. We know that. We understand that. That’s been one of our downfalls – not giving effort.

“I’ve always said it’s not about the Xs and Os, just about how hard we want to go out there and play, how badly we want to win that game. We talked yesterday, everybody talking about doing the right thing. Most important everybody still remains confident. We just know we have to fix it.”
