Carmelo Anthony was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, but his coach missed out on East Coach of the Month.
Mike Woodson finished behind the Nets' Avery Johnson for the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for November.
Knowing both men, they would like the award because it means their team is playing well. But they each would rather be the top coach in May and June.
Anthony helped lead the Knicks to a 3-1 mark, averaging a league-best 29.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Anthony scored over 30 points in two contests.
In New York’s 106-99 home victory over the Phoenix Suns on Dec. 2, Anthony scored a game-high 34 points, and added six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
Tyson Chandler was also nominated for East Player of the Week.
Woodson was nominated for Coach of the Month after guiding the Knicks to an 11-4 mark in November. He definitely deserved consideration, especially since he did it without key players Amar'e Stoudemire and Iman Shumpert.
But Johnson also led the Nets to an 11-4 record in November, including a victory over the Knicks.
