Carmelo doesn't think trade to Nets is close

Chris Tomasson, NBA national writer for FanHouse.com, caught up with Carmelo Anthony on Monday after Denver's practice.

According to Tomasson on Twitter, Anthony was in a good mood on Monday despite speculation that he could be on his way to the Nets. Trade talks are reportedly heating up between the Nets and Nuggets, with the Detroit Pistons involved as the third team.

Tomasson tweeted some of what Carmelo said.

So is Carmelo on the verge of going to New Jersey? Carmelo doesn' think so, according to Tomasson on Twitter.

When asked if he feels there will be no trade this week: "That's just my feeling. I don't think so. I don't want to elaborate on that."

When asked what he would say if presented with an opportunity to go to the Nets: "After that meeting, I'll let you know how that meeting went."

On coming to the Knicks:

"New York is playing well right now. I don't think they're looking at me. They wouldn't want me to come in there and mess what they have up." Then Anthony followed by saying: "That's what I've read so."

When asked if he wants to go to New York, Anthony said he's a Denver Nugget until something happens.

Carmelo was also asked if he would agree to a contract extension with the Nets. His response to that is he's "patiently" waiting for a sitdown with Denver management. He said no meeting has been scheduled.
