Jason Kidd returned to practice with the Knicks on Friday and said he’s hoping to play next week when the team hits the road.
Kidd (back spasms) will miss his third straight game tonight against 1-12 Washington and seems out for Sunday’s game against Phoenix.
The Knicks begin a three-day road trip Wednesday in Charlotte that also takes them to Miami and Chicago in a four-day span.
“I hope so,” Kidd said of playing on that trip. “Hopefully that’s the plan, to get me back out there some time next week.”
Kidd, 39, shot jumpers and three-pointers at the end of practice after working on strengthening his back while the Knicks went through their paces to prepare for Washington.
“[The back has been] a lot better as the week’s gone on,” said Kidd, who said he had an MRI earlier in the week. “Just take it day-by-day. The goal is to be 100 percent when you come back. There’s no need to rush. Our guys are playing extremely well. Today was a great day working out. So we’ll see how I feel tomorrow.”
Kidd said the back spasms came up suddenly. They forced him to miss the Knicks’ first game at Brooklyn on Monday (an overtime loss) and Wednesday’s win at Milwaukee.
