The last 10-15 minutes that the Knicks scrimmaged, Jeremy Lin and Baron Davis were in the backcourt together.
There will all different combinations up front, including one that featured Jerome Jordan. But it was Lin and Davis together that was significant. Davis did most of the ball-handling and Lin played off of him.
Coach Mike D’Antoni said he wants Lin and Davis to get used to playing together in case he puts them on the court together in games.
“It might happen in the game, we might have both of them in,” D’Antoni said. “So they’re just getting used to each other, playing with each other. Nothing that was designed or anything, just a normal part of practice
“We’ll see. We have a lot more playmaking and everything else. We’ll see if that’s good or not. They can play together because Baron can guard bigger guards so that’s definitely a possibility. Whether you want that or not we’ll see because that means JR, Shumpert, Novak, Melo, somebody’s not playing. That’s hard. You have to be really good together.”
Lin said he’s comfortable playing off the ball, that he did at Harvard and looks forward to playing with Davis if it happens. D’Antoni said it could be something he would use on a last possession.
“Yeah,” he said. “We could go small or something and move Melo to the four and do it that way. We definitely could.”
The Knicks have all different combinations they can use now. It likely will be an evolving situation, just like the bench and overall rotation.
