The Knicks finally got something out of one Phil Jackson’s mindfulness training sessions.
The players used that forum to express themselves and clear the air in front of coaches and the Knicks’ president last Saturday, after an ugly loss the night before in Washington.
“It wasn’t even arranged,” Jeff Hornacek said. “It was just part of the mindfulness meeting that Phil does every week. Maybe not every week — maybe every couple of weeks. It was just when that ended, a couple of guys wanted to chime in, so it wasn’t anything where they said, ‘Hey, let’s have a meeting.’ I mean they’re already in the film room so they just kept talking.”
Hornacek said the players wanted to talk about their road struggles. Hornacek said, “Maybe just the foreign guys didn’t say much but everybody else chimed in at some point. It was more about them stepping up. It was probably more talking about what we need to do to win on the road. It wasn’t one offense or defense. It was, ‘Hey when we go out on the road you got to play with a different mentality.’ I thought most of the talk was really about that and having to step it up.”
n A Melo Thanksgiving
Derrick Rose’s family is back in Chicago so he said he’ll spend Thanksgiving with Carmelo Anthony and his family.
“I’m thankful I have somewhere to go,” Rose said. “I just asked where his family’s [going] and asked if it was cool if I came over. He said yeah so I don’t think I have to bring anything but an appetite.”
Anthony said, “He better bring a pie or something. He can’t come empty handed.”
n Injury updates
Noah (illness) missed his second straight game and Lance Thomas (sore left ankle) his fifth in a row. Hornacek hopes Noah can practice Thursday and play Friday night against Charlotte.
